Ten Minutes

That’s how long I ran for yesterday.

Yep, running. I’m cleared to run!

The shoe line up by our door: Equal parts flip flops and running/basketball shoes. Plus one pair of dress shoes. You'd think at least 4 people live here. Nope, just 2.

My happy little shoes after the run

Plenty of dirt/sand/grass as proof of actual running outside

I walked for five minutes to warm up my legs and then I trotted into a jog and from there into a run. It didn’t feel completely foreign, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little awkward, like I was just out slowly bobbing around. I guess that will happen after 12 weeks away from it.

Isn’t it funny that just in my last post I was talking about how broken I still felt? (Thank you for all your comments of support and love, by the way. They mean so much!) In some ways I still do since I know there is a long way to go before I’m back to full running form (for example: I’m only running ten minutes every other day this week), but pretty much right after that last post I found out I was in the clear. Ironic.

I met with a doctor/professor at Matt’s med school who I also talked to after I got my x-rays done. He felt around the area that had previously been inflamed and tender and was so surprised at how much better it felt. That, plus my clean x-ray and MRI earned me the “go ahead.” In fact, he said it was good for me to start running in order to start strengthening my foot. You don’t have to tell me twice!

I was so sad when my ten minutes of running were over. They flew by! But all in all, I’d say it was a sweet reunion.

  1. Yay!! SO glad to hear that you’re able to run again, I know how rotten it feels to be a runner out of commission :) On the bright side, there’s nothing like an injury to renew and invigorate your love for running, and to remind you just how lucky you really are to be blessed with the ability to run!

  2. YAY!! This calls for a celebration so I’m throwing homemade confetti from the top of the stairs!! So, so happy for you!!!

  3. Best. News. Ever! I’m so glad you are able to get back at it!!! Those first few months when you are building mileage back up are such a tease. Just when you get warmed up you have to stop again. Enjoy it!

  4. YAY!!!! I’m so happy for you Cec :) you’ve been nothing but positive this entire time. I’m going to have to follow your lead. I am so happy you’re back :) xoxo

  5. Awesome, awesome, awesome! So so very happy for you Cec! You will be back in shape in no time.

Wish we lived closer so you could run at my pace for awhile while you get back into shape. :)

  6. Hooray!!!!! I’m so excited… Even if it was only 10 minutes and it feels like it went by too fast. You are going to make the most outstanding comeback! So stoked to be here rooting for you!! :)

  7. Hello running,
    Welcome back into Ceck’s life.
    Sweet kisses of reunion.
To some, 10 minutes of you is an eternity… To others, a blink of an eye.
    Either way, glad you’re back.

  8. Oh it’s fantastic that you’ve been cleared to run again! I’m so excited for you!
I’ve got an appointment next month for an x-ray/MRI because of my hip pains. I’m worried what they’ll find as I’ve had 3 months off from running now and the pain is still getting worse. :(

  9. Yay!!! Oh my gosh I know exactly how it feels. Starting to run again… it’s all too familiar! It’s awkward, fun, terrifying, and exciting all at the same time. I’m so happy for you!
